I am delighted to share the success of the Hour of Code Family-Coding Event organized by the Computer Science Department at Kansas State University for Fall 2023. The positive feedback from attending parents and their expressed interest in future events marks a significant milestone in promoting computer science within our community.
The event begins with a registration process in the Info section. Upon registration, each child receives a stamping sheet and then visits different stations to collect stamps, and participants have the opportunity to receive a gift from the department as a token of their accomplishment.

Unplugged Activity: Zac Mixon, Carrie Aponte, and Mitchell Hutchinson masterfully led the unplugged activity. Notably, Zac’s ingenious teaching of algorithms through joyful jumping, Carrie’s enchanting “code a cat” adventure with coding stories, and Mitchell’s inclusive support. Your workshop was a standout success
Game Design: Jayton Hay and Chipo Sekabanja, your guidance in the game design section not only captivated the kids but also inspired parents to explore building their own games. Your contribution is invaluable.
AI Workshop: Dylan Rosquist and Ella Carlson, kudos for successfully guiding both young children and older graduate students in designing Chatbots using block programming. Your workshop was a success.
Networking: Pedro Alcantar-Mendez and Abdullah Rasheed, your delivery of networking concepts through Makey Makey, allowing children to design instruments and generate music, left a lasting impression. Your enthusiasm was awsome!
Data Science: Evangelos Chitwood, your supervisor at the data science station, explained the intricacies of data and the pursuit of insights, adding a valuable dimension to the event
VR Programming: Logan Hayward and Emma Lucas, your efforts in guiding participants to code and create their first VR piano in a challenging workshop were commendable. Your commitment to ensuring everyone’s success was evident
Registration and Info Section: Timothy Tucker, Supriya Bolla, Wesley French, and Vania Santillana, your seamless management of the registration, certificate, gifts, and information section was pivotal in providing a smooth experience for parents and participants.
Hidden Figures: Tajammul Ikhlaas, Logan Smith, and Manny Adeniji, your behind-the-scenes efforts in preparing the labs, ensuring they were well-equipped, and providing support throughout the event did not go unnoticed. You are the unsung heroes of this successful endeavor.
